Premiere: Yuno Verse Releases Walls of White, ft. Paya
Rotterdam-based artist Yuno Verse premieres “Walls of White” on CelebMix. Co-written and co-produced by Yuno Verse and Whan, the track was mastered by Lurssen Mastering.
Yuno Verse encountered his appetite for rap while he was a teenager. Later, he dropped out of college, focusing all his energy on music. He established a studio, but things fell apart and he wound up living in a storage container sans running water and heat for two years. Working multiple jobs to pay for the studio, Yuno Verse’s testing rivaled that of the Biblical Job.
In 2017, thieves entered the studio and stripped it bare. Yuno’s EP, Massimo’s Pigeon, was gone. Marshaling his forces, Yuno went to work reproducing the EP. As a whole, he spent three years making and replicating the EP. The end result is hip-hop music that eschews any hint of derivation, and is completely unique in sound and sonic pressure.
“Walls of White” opens on a simple glowing piano flowing into oscillating vibrations. Paya’s soul-filled velvety tones enter, infusing the tune with cool, sensuous R&B colors. A measured rhythm throbs deeply, as shimmering synths glide overhead. A silky falsetto rides high and free, and then drops into Yuno Verse’s tight nasal rapping flow backed by penetrating vocal effects.
An austerely searing guitar enters, radiating from within gossamer textured strings, while the delicious falsetto timbres form a sonic rampart impossible to escape, gorgeous and oh, so evocative and crystalline.
The amalgamation of R&B, soul, and trap, along with the tantalizing falsetto deliver a cool, smooth hip-hop sound that lacks contemporary equivalence, sumptuous and lush, yet simultaneously ascetic and minimal.
Smart lyrics with slick rhymes give the song a deluxe ambience, even referencing the high architecture of Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers.
“But it’s not on you / You need to do what you gotta do / Let’s show the world what you’re made of / Inside out like the pompidou / Inside out like the Pompidou / Lay it out like the Pompidou / Let ‘em watch you when you’re way up.”
On “Walls of White,” Yuno Verse demonstrates originality, flamboyance, and passionate energy. This track is lit!
