Katy Perry will host 2017 MTV Video Music Awards
Put your rose-colored glasses on and get ready to party because Katy Perry will host this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards take place Sunday, August 27 at the Forum in Inglewood, California and will be hosted by Perry, MTV announced Thursday.
The singer also shared the news on social media. “Introducing your MOONWOMAN. Brace for impact!” she wrote of her promo, which finds the newly blonde singer floating in space clad as an astronaut.

“I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson.” – Perry joked.
Viacom’s head of music and music talent, global entertainment group, Bruce Gillmer, added:
“We’re thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs. She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year’s show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history.”
Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s VMA nominees with eight nominations, with Perry and The Weeknd tied for second with five nominations each. Bruno Mars and DJ Khaled each have four nominations, Ed Sheeran and Alessia Cara have three nominations each.
What’s more, since the inaugural VMAs in 1984, the show won’t have gender-specific awards. The network has done away with the “Best Female Video” and “Best Male Video” categories for a combined “Artist of the Year” competition.
The 2017 VMAs are set to air live from the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
