Justin Caruso Talks About Single Good Parts

Fresh from the performance at Chasing Summer Music Festival in Calgary, Justin Caruso has teamed up with LA-based singer/songwriter Maedi to deliver a summer jam “Good Parts”. The track was featured on the cover of Spotify’s coveted ‘Mint’ electronic playlist and combines brilliant production with atmospheric chord patterns to make for an infectious new track.

A recent graduate of USC’s Thorton School of Music, Justin has opened for 3LAU, Tiesto and The Chainsmokers on North American tours as well as headlining his own “Can I Drop Out Yet” tour across the country. He has performed at major festivals including Billboard Hot 100 Fest and EDC Las Vegas.

Pairing the velvety vocals of Maedi and Justin’s carefully tuned production, “Good Parts” follows the story of two lovers who parted ways after a toxic relationship while one lover still holds onto the good memories of their past relationship. Featuring Justin’s flawless instrumentals combined with Maedi harmonizing melodies, “Good Parts” contains heartfelt lyricism and catchy rhythms that will light up dance floors worldwide.

With a slew of hit remixes for artists like Kim Petras, Blink 182, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, Hayley Kiyoko and more, Justin has cemented himself as one of the most sought after producers in the industry. With over 30 million streams worldwide, Justin has released original chart-topping track “Talk About Me” and a hit remix of X Ambassadors “Unsteady” with the latter reaching over 13 million streams on Spotify.

At CelebMix, we had a chance to sit down and chat with Justin Caruso about his latest single “Good Parts”, his experience with Maedi, performing at Moonrise festival and much more. Read the interview below to know more!

Hi Justin! How has your week been like thus far?

Hi! Everything has been great! Thank you for asking.

You’ve taken the EDM world by storm with your production skills. How did you break into the music scene at such a young age, while being a student at USC? Did it happen suddenly or was it more gradual process than it seems?

It was definitely a long process. I began making music and DJing in high school and I didn’t really find myself in the music scene until about sophomore year at USC. So yeah, it was more of a gradual process.

How has your experience attending USC influenced your career’s beginning trajectory at all? Was there any specific strategy that you followed to produce music for the jump start?

My experience at USC was great and I met a lot of talented people in music there. My first song “Talk About Me” was actually with another USC student at the time, Victoria Zaro, so it was a great way to kick off my career there.

Sounds fantastic. Earlier this month you released a new track, “Good Parts” ft. Maedi, and we’re loving its catchy vibe. How was it working with Maedi? Tell us about the collaboration and the creative process. Are you happy with the outcome?

Working with Maedi was incredible she is such a talented singer and songwriter. She and I got connected through my manager and I heard her demo idea for “Good Parts” and I knew right away I had to be a part of this project. I love the piano and emotional aspect of this song and I wanted to keep that, but at the same time add an uplifting element. I’m very happy with the outcome and I love seeing so many people enjoy it.

“Good Parts” tells the story of a lover still holding on to good memories of a previously toxic relationship. Where did you get the inspiration for the heartfelt lyricism of this track?

I’ve gone through breakups on my own and I think it’s really important to remember good parts from your past relationships and not only the bad times. I’ve found it so important to remember what you learned from past relationships and how they have helped you grow and I think a lot of people can relate to that.

Who are your major musical inspirations from the industry – dead or alive, who help carved your signature style? If given a chance right now, which three artists you would want to collaborate with?

I would say my biggest inspirations are Porter Robinson and The Chainsmokers. Those guys are the best of the best and they make music they want to make and I find that amazing. They have definitely inspired my sound and the direction I want to go in my career. As for as artists I’d want to collaborate with one day I would say The Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran, and Leon Bridges. All 3 of those artists are amazing.

Out of all your remixes and original tracks produced to date, is there one in particular that stands out to you?

Good Parts stands out to me the most. I think I’m finally free to make whatever I’d like to make and I feel this is a new chapter in my career of a lot of amazing music to come.

That sounds great, Justin. So, how do you see yourself evolving as an artist since you began? What kind of future do you envision for your career?

I just began my own label “Nine Twenty Two,” which Good Parts was released under. I think this will be a big step for me as far as rolling out my new label and joining the business side of the industry. I eventually envision myself being a top artist along with a major label that I own.

How’s your experience of performing at the Moonrise Festival? Do you have any memorable moment to share? You’ve received a warm welcome from your fans there!

Moonrise fest was unbelievable and one of my favorites shows to date! To see so many fans come out early in the day to support me means the world to me and it was also the first time I was able to play Good Parts since its release and to see people already know the words, was unreal!

What’s next on your career bucket list in 2019? Where can we catch you next?

My bucket list is to release new music every month which I’m going to do my best to stay true to. You can catch me all over the USA this fall with my tour and some amazing artists like Loud Luxury and Tiesto.
