Dorothy Carter Wagner Bankston Obituary, Death  – After a long illness, Dorothy (Dot) Carter Wagner Bankston, 83, of Holden, Louisiana, died peacefully in Jesus’ arms on February 2, 2024. Dorothy was born in Albany, Louisiana, July 15, 1940. She was baptised at Tickfaw River after becoming Christian young. Her faith was taught at Old Zion Hill Baptist. They attended Flaggler Street Baptist Church and Pembroke Pines Baptist Church in Miami after marrying Carlton Bankston. Dorothy and Carl reared their two sons at Magnolia Baptist Church in Holden, Louisiana, after returning home.

Dorothy, Albany HS graduate. She joined a phone firm after graduating. She became a Lallie Kemp Hospital switchboard operator from phone employment. On October 30, 1964, Dorothy married Carlton Bankston at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church. Her family came first. Dorothy organised the house and disciplined her two difficult boys while Carlton worked for the airlines in Miami, New York City, and Holden. Dorothy became close to the “Magnolia sisters” during her 50 years at Magnolia Baptist Church.

Dorothy liked travelling. Her husband, children, and sisters travelled all 50 states, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Despite residing in Miami, New York, and Atlanta, Dot named Holden “home”. She was talented and liked sewing. Her wedding dress and Charlotte’s Matron of Honour attire were handmade. Besides bridal garments, Mrs. Bankston stitched for her sisters, herself, and two boys. Grandmother embroidered her grandsons’ nursery bedding and windows.

Mrs. Bankston is survived by her two sons, Steven Ray Bankston (Kymberly) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Stuart Lyle Bankston (Rebecca) of Holden; grandchildren, Barnes Ray Bankston (Michaela), USMC 1st Lt. Carter Bankston, Christopher Bankston, Myia Bozeman (Derrick), Tyler Bankston (Lien), McKenzie Salinas (Sean), Gauge Bankston, and Kati-Grace Bankston; great-grandchildren Liam, Alizabeth Dorothy’s husband, Carlton Bankston, parents, Gordan and Majorie Jelks Wagner, sister, Rita Wagner Mathews, and brother, Andrew David Wagner, died. Dorothy was lovingly cared for by Bonnie Vaughn, Kayla Roundtree, Kim and Joni Edwards, and Jill Doty for six years. Their family thanks them. Family and guests can visit Brandon Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on February 6, 2024.
