He is perhaps best known as one of the founders of the retail company The Home Depot and the owner of the Atlanta Falcons football team which plays in the NFL. Georgia Trend magazine has twice named him Georgia’s Most Respected CEO. For his achievements in business Arthur Blank was titled National Entrepreneur Of The Year by Ernst & Young LLP in 2005, and was inducted into the Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame in 2006. Initially, he worked as a senior accountant at Arthur Young and Company. Later, he worked for the Daylin Corporation in which he step by step reached the position of the Elliott’s Drug Stores/Stripe Discount Stores president. At first he was responsible for the division of Daylin, later moving on to the Handy Dan Home Improvement Centers division. Due to an internal power struggle, Arthur was made redundant, and consequently Blank, together with the former CEO of Handy Dan Bernard Marcus, founded the retailer of construction and home improvement products and services The Home Depot. The company was very successful thus adding billions to the net worth of the founders, including Arthur Blank. After working for 19 years as a president of the company, Blank retired in 2001.
